The Nativity of the Virgin Mary

Yep. Today is the feast day honoring the birth of the Virgin Mary. As far as I know, there are only three birthdays honored in the Catholic Church -- Our Lord's (obviously), the Virgin Mary's, and St. John the Baptist's. Here at Chez Ouiz, it's not a feast day unless there is "a yummy dessert to go with it" (according to Sean, who thinks that the St. Joseph cream puffs are amazing and should be used to honor every feast day...).

Well...

According to Catholic Traditions in the Home and Classroom, it is traditional to serve blueberries today (blue being, of course, the color most often associated with Mary).

I've got blueberries!

I think we've got a blueberry gingerbread cake in our future for this evening.

Happy Birthday, Mary!
