I know everyone has been breathlessly awaiting to hear what phone I finally decided on!
I took the plunge and bought an iPhone.
First, I goofed and let my iPAQ battery completely run out. Not being good at syncing it on a regular basis (it was really a pain), I lost a LOT of information. Very, very sad day for me. I knew that I would need something that I would travel with on a regular basis, rather than just be an "extra" that I had.
Still up in the air about what phone to get, I called the phone company to get some options and found out that the price per month for the data package I would need for the iPhone was cut in half. Looking at the birthday money I got last month, plus the money I saved last week with grocery shopping (and a lot of encouragement from my husband), I decided to take the plunge.
When I got to the store, I found that the price of the model I was going to buy had been cut by $50 just that day! Praise the Lord!
So, when it was all said and done, I got my iPhone for basically $24 of our money, plus a little bit extra every month.
I still feel guilty splurging for a luxury such as this, but already (after just one day) I can see that I will be using this an awful lot. Just the GPS alone will be worth it! (for those of you who don't know me, I am "geographically challenged." This was a huge problem when I lived in the midwest, and everyone insisted on giving me directions such as, "Well, you turn west on E. S. 2nd Street, then go north on Main Street, etc..." I couldn't take it! I begged them to tell me simple "left and right" sorts of directions.)
I've already got Universalis loaded on my phone (I lost my subscription when my iPAQ went dead... truly, a sad day) and iPieta, as well as a barcode scanner. I'm sure I'll be finding tons of fun apps as the days go by!

the Gps is awesome! Have fun with it!
I know it's going to save the day on many, many occasions!
You said you had a droid, though, right? My husband really wanted one of those... *grin* He was hoping we could swap...
Congratulations on making a decision; having all sort of money things associated with it go right and here's to enjoying it! (glass of non-alcoholic sparkling grape juice raised high here). (well, non-alcoholic for a few more weeks anyway :) ).
Here's hoping that it simplifies things for this very scatterbrained homeschooling mom, and enables me to get rid of stuff as well!
You're higher tech than I am right now, Ouiz! I'm proud of you. We're evaluating smartphones right now, too. My husband needs one for work and the Droid is buy one get one free right now. I have heard great things about it from friends. My sister has the iPhone and loves it. I'm a little concerned about AT&T's coverage though. Verizon has great coverage, and I have been happy with it. I have not really ever thought I needed a smartphone, but it would probably replace a lot of what I do on my home computer, so it might be worth it. I don't like the idea of paying extra for the data plan though. Maybe I'll get a deal like you did. Here's hoping!
I think that's pretty darn funny... You are light years ahead of me in all things technical!
Up here, at&t's coverage is pretty good, and I've had no problems so far. In fact, I'm writing this in the parking lot of the grocery store.
Dh really wanted a droid, so you'll have to tell me how you like it!
OK, my last comment shows what happens when I try to combine too many thoughts together in my head...
I meant to say that (1) I have no problem with AT&T's coverage up here. The phone service works great AND (2) it's wonderful to be able to connect to the internet wherever I am and do goofy stuff like, check my blog for comments!
I ended up with the Droid and I love it. Many great apps. I barely use the laptop now.
I knew you would! You and dh are alike in many ways, and he's been chomping at the bit to try one out!
