Poetry Friday

I just *had* to share the wonderful pictures my kids drew today!

This is how we do it in our family -- I find fun poems that will be a joy for us to read and memorize, and we read it out loud a few times every day. By the end of the week, if they can recite it, they get to decorate the page and put it in the binders.

As an extra this time around, we decided to "act it out." We waited until it was completely dark outside, and turned out ALL the lights (with the exception of one candle and, I must admit, the Christmas tree -- yes, it's still up! -- which served as our "fireplace.") We took turns reading the poem, checking out our reflections in the window, and taking that long, dark walk down the hallway to the bedrooms. I can see some of our activities reflected in the pictures they drew!

This is Sean's...

(check out the guy on the left. He's mighty hesitant about going into "the dark.")

Reilly's...

(I love the people around the fire that she's drawn!)

and Kathryn's...

(Kathryn's reflection in the window is wonderful!)

Ah, Ouiz, it warms my heart to know that your Christmas Tree is still up! Will it make it to Ash Wednesday?

I love the pictures! You have some talented artists in the making there. I know they got that gene from you!

Thanks for the wonderful post!

Thank you! (and as of today, our very brittle Christmas tree is still up. It will come down this weekend, though... I think)

We loved doing this project! Thanks everyone!
