Our vocations

My dear friend Malia and I were talking this morning about our vocations, and how it's in doing the simple things, faithfully, that we grow in holiness. We have such high expectations sometimes of having this amazing spiritual life, filled with mountaintop experiences and hours of study and worship, but that's just not realistic. I can please God more in folding the laundry out of love for my children, or snuggling with them and reading them a story, than I would if I tried to "escape it all" and spend hours alone with Him. Some have that privilege, but my vocation is being a wife and mother, and that is how He has chosen to make me holy.

I just found this video from Nichole Nordeman on TNMOMTOMANYBLESSINGS blogsite that I thought expressed it so beautifully. Seeing all the "hidden people" faithfully serving the Lord in the vocation He's called them to be was enough to bring tears to my eyes.

What especially touched me in the end of the video was the fact that the pictures form an image of God's hands, reaching down to His people. What better way to show that we are all part of the Body of Christ, and it is through us that He chooses to reach out to the world?
