Happy Birthday, Kathryn!!

Six years ago today they wheeled me into the operating room. I was eager to see if you would be anything like your older sister, and yet scared stiff at the thought of having a third child. I felt completely overwhelmed and wasn't sure if I was up to the job of mothering three.

When you first came out the nurses all chuckled at your boisterous cry (ok, it was more like a yell) and told me you had a healthy set of lungs.

Five minutes went by, and you still screamed.
Ten.
Fifteen.
Twenty.

By now the operating room is getting a bit tense.

Twenty-five.
Thirty.
Thirty-five.
Forty.
Forty-five minutes later, they finished sewing me up, and you were STILL screaming.

Your dad and I thought we were in BIG trouble.

And you proved in the weeks and months ahead that you had a set idea of how things should be, and were willing to fight for it.

I was absolutely terrified, and told God so.

I was wrong.

You are one of the sweetest, most loving little girls I have ever seen. You are quick to smile, quick to laugh, and your "temper" is kept under control by your even personality. You take care of your younger siblings so cheerfully, so easily, that I sometimes forget you are just now six!

You have jumped right in to homeschooling like a real trouper, and have managed to pick up so much so fast! You amaze me with your spirit, your willingness to give it a try, and your intelligence.

I love your laugh, your jokes, and listening to you and your sister share whispered stories and giggles when you are supposed to be sleeping (yes, Daddy and I can hear you!) You two have such a wonderful relationship, and it thrills me to see that you are already trying to include Marie in it as well. You both make me so proud!

I love you, sweetheart.

Ouiz -
Did you draw that "My Little Pony" for her? Was it for pin-the-tail?

I'm in awe of your artistic abilities -

You know, I think you need to post of photo of the 'square cow' (or was that only a pillow design?)

Happy BirthdayS!

You are so sweet! Thank you!!! I needed that encouragement!

Yes, I drew that for the "pin the tail on the pony" game. I tried to find a pin the tail game at several party stores. Complete bust. Tried finding a MLP poster. Again, a bust... so, the night before her party, I sat down with one of her coloring books and a glass of wine and started drawing. DH was very supportive -- cheering me on -- and the result made her very happy.

I can't believe you still remember the "square cow"!!! It was both a pillow and a framed picture for the kids. It'll try to take a picture of it later.

Thank you, suburban cowgirl!!!
