Weekend Wrap Up

Seems like Sunday nights are the only time I get to be in front of the computer for any length of time! (that's when I schedule the next week's assignments for homeschooling, so there you go!)

1. Father had a wonderful homily this morning. He talked about John the Baptist, and how he said of the Lord, "He must increase, while I must decrease." In our lives he must do the same, but that can't happen if we don't know Him. He said that the number of books we as adults have read over the years is quite substantial -- how many of those, however, are about Jesus? He challenged us to make this the year that we spend our time studying Him by reading books (the Bible, of course, and other spiritual works) that will help us to fall in love with our Savior. Seeing as reading books about Jesus and Catholicism is one of my favorite things to do ANYWAY, whoo hoo! As my dh said afterwards, "Well, looks like you just got a green light to keep reading..." *grin*

2.. We finally took the Christmas tree down. As much as I love the Christmas season, I found that all the decorations were just too much for me this year. I had been doing SO well with the daily schedule... the decluttering and scheduled clean ups... that I had actually reached a place where I was AT PEACE with the house and how it looked. As soon as we took the Christmas decorations down from the attic, however, I felt that same old anxiety and frustration return. I think it's safe to say that I have discovered a major fact about myself:

I don't do visual clutter well.
Not at all.

It took a good chunk of the afternoon to get the tree down, the boxes packed, and my house back to a semi-decent working order. The evening clean up took care of a big portion of the rest, and hopefully... HOPEFULLY... we can get back on track tomorrow.

3. Remember a few weeks back when Jen (from Conversion Diary) mentioned that Matisyahu was one of her favorite singers? She linked to the song Miracles (a fun Hanukkah song if I do say so myself). Well, that just piqued my interest, so I got on YouTube and found his video for One Day. I LOVE this song!

For a stressed-out, Apocalypse-fearing chick like myself, this seems to calm me down...

4. TODAY WAS THE DAY.

Yes, after 40+ years of life, TODAY was the day my husband tried that frightening "food stuff" known as SPAM. I have told him horror stories of having to eat "crunchy-Spam-with-mustard-on-white-bread" sandwiches. Blech. Such a thing should not even exist. Soooooooo, when he saw that a grocery store in our area had it on sale, he jokingly suggested I get some. I did, so that he could experience the horror as well.

DH and Sean marveling at how easy it is to cut.

Frying it up 'til it's nice and crispy...

Taking that first bite...

Then he started laughing and said, "you know, this would be good in a sandwich with some mustard on it..."  And he ATE it! Arrg! He actually LIKED it! It's bad enough that my beloved dh liked it, but then...

I was betrayed by my own flesh and blood! Sean liked it!

Final score, dh and 6 kids thought it was "good" to "OK."

Ah, at least I can count on Thomas to be on my side...

One final note to this story: I called my mom and dad to tell them about the whole sordid affair, and they started laughing -- "Actually, we were going to have Spam sandwiches for supper tonight."

What is WRONG with these people????

I must say that SPAM was NEVER served at my house growing up! I'll have to ask my DH if he had it or not. I don't think I've ever tasted SPAM!

This is too funny! On our trips from SD to Michigan to visit family we pass by the SPAM Museum each time! We always joke that we're going to check it out one day.

"...16,500 square feet of SPAM artifacts, history and fun--and all for free!"

Sounds too good to be true, no?

NO ONE should have to eat Spam.

Jen, how can you pass the Spam museum, though? That's just offbeat enough that I'd have to go... I mean, think of the pictures and the family stories you could tell!! LOL!

SBG, you're not missing much. Believe me! (although my kids would disagree. Kathryn actually cooked up MORE for lunch today!) sigh. At least she ate it on homemade bread. That's my small consolation...

Beth, can you believe it? They actually spent their time in the car discussing eating Spam for dinner! Ugh! I told them they were crazy...
