Just a quick note here (since I am supposed to be finishing up the planning for this week's homeschooling!)
Elizabeth Foss some time ago... I'm not sure when... recommended the Adoremus Hymnal. It sounded like a great CD for us to get, so I bought it.
I'm so glad I did.
Perhaps you live in an area where the traditional hymns are sung at Mass, but at our parish it just doesn't happen. Sad, but that's the way it is. I would rather my children not get nostalgic for the "good old days" when they are older and pine for... say... City of God... or All are Welcome... or, my personal favorite the "Chiquita Banana Hallelujah."
[sorry... but I really can't stand those songs.]
This is a great way to introduce my children to traditional Catholic hymns! We will be listening to this CD often!
Another favorite of mine was one that Dawn from By Sun and Candlelight recommended last year. It's so good I need to recommend it again -- Beth Nielson Chapman's Hymns. It is a gorgeous album, and one that I put in the player OFTEN when I need some peace in an otherwise chaotic day.
