My apologies for not getting this out sooner! This recipe represents a normal recipe plus my additions... so you get them the way we make them here!
1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1 c whole wheat flour
1/4 c wheat germ
1/2 c sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 c milk
6 tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 large egg
1/2 c semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 c dried tart cherries
Preheat oven to 400. Grease a normal 12 muffin pan. In a large bowl, combine flours, sugar, baking powder, wheat germ, and salt. In small bowl, beat milk, melted butter, vanilla, and egg until well blended. Add liquid mixture to flour mixture. Stir just until flour is evenly moistened. Fold in chocolate chips and cherries (the 1/2 cup is just a suggestion. I just go for a good handful... or two!). Spoon batter evenly into muffin tin. As an extra, you can also sprinkle a little bit of turbinado sugar on the top.
Bake muffins for 18-20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in centers of muffins comes out clean. Immediately remove muffins from pan. Serve warm, or cool on a wire rack to serve later.

I am so jealous of all you women whose families don't rise up in rebellion at recipes with cherries in them.
That is the one food I love that nobody else here does. (Pout!)
Your recipe calls for dried ones though. Do you think I could pass them off as raisins?
Thanks, Ouiz!
Oh, hooray! You posted it. Now I can make these next week for our rosary group!
I hope your families enjoy them!
Matilda... my kids usually rebel at the thought of raisins, or dried ANYTHING, in food. It drives me nuts! (they'll eat them by the handful by themselves, mind you... it's just when I put them IN something that they protest!)
Dried cherries seem to be the ONLY dried fruits that I can sneak in! (and I think that's only because I combine them with chocolate chips!)
