In the "these people are nuts" category...

We have the Church of England, who came out with this announcement (H/T: Dwight Longenecker from "Standing On My Head")

Church of England leaders warned yesterday that calling God 'He' encourages men to beat their wives.

They told churchgoers they must think twice before they refer to God as 'He' or 'Lord' because of the dangers that it will lead to domestic abuse.

In new guidelines for bishops and priests on such abuse, they blamed "uncritical use of masculine imagery" for encouraging men to behave violently towards women.

The stupidity here is so overwhelming I'm not sure where to go with this. My dh, who has a great sense of humor, summarized his thoughts on this:

"Contrary to the consensus of the ruling body of the Church of England, referring to God in the masculine does not tempt me to beat my wife. Imagine if I was I tempted every time He or Lord was spoken during Mass to turn around and slap her. She'd be black and blue before the end of the processional hymn -- unless it was one with lyrics composed by Haugen, Haas, or Shutte. Those just make me want to slap the music director."

It's so idiotic. And evil, as a matter of fact.
